Occupational Therapy

Diversicare facilities have teams consisting of physical therapists (PTs), occupational therapists (OTs), and speech language pathologists (SLPs) who work together to provide focused, individualized treatment and rehabilitation for our patients.

Physical Therapy is a healthcare profession that assists people in recovering from injuries or illnesses and focuses on mobility, functional ability, quality of life and movement potential. Services address gait training, bed mobility, wound care, restraint reduction and wheelchair positioning.

Occupational Therapy is a healthcare profession that helps people of all ages participate in the things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of everyday activities.

Occupational therapy services may include comprehensive evaluations of the home, recommendations for the use of adaptive equipment to increase independence, and training/ education for caregivers. Functional tasks often addressed include: eating, dressing, housekeeping or grooming.

Speech-language Therapy is a profession that addresses communication and swallowing disorders. Areas often addressed include:

  • Cognitive aspects of communication
  • Speech
  • Language comprehension and expression.
  • Swallowing

All treatments are provided to regain the highest levels of function. The patient and their family members are actively involved in all aspects of the rehabilitation process, from goal setting to discharge planning.
